About Louanna
A Therapist Who Meets You in the Fullness of Who You Are
My Story & Approach
I'm Louanna Fonnegra, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #112865) based in Santa Clarita, CA. I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and have dedicated my career to providing meaningful, culturally grounded mental health care.
My path to therapy was shaped by my own understanding of what it means to move between worlds β navigating cultural expectations, family loyalty, faith, and personal identity all at once. That experience informs everything I do in the therapy room.
I work with individuals, couples, and families facing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the complex intersection of cultural and spiritual identity. My clients often describe the therapeutic space I create as one where they finally feel seen β not in spite of their backgrounds, but because of them.

The Way I Work
Relational
The therapeutic relationship itself is healing. I show up with warmth, consistency, and genuine care.
Strengths-Based
I believe you already carry the seeds of resilience. Therapy helps you find and water them.
Integrative
I draw from CBT, trauma-informed models, narrative therapy, and culturally adapted practices depending on what fits you best.
On Cultural Competence & Humility
I don't believe culture is something to be "handled" in therapy β it is the context in which we understand ourselves. As a therapist, I am committed to ongoing learning, cultural humility, and creating a space that affirms the richness of your background, whether you identify with your Latino/a heritage, your faith tradition, your LGBTQIA+ identity, or all of the above. You belong here.
For Clients of Faith
I offer faith-integrated therapy for clients who want their spiritual beliefs to be a resource β not a footnote β in the therapeutic process. This is not conversion therapy or spiritual direction. It is a collaborative, client-led integration of faith and psychological healing, offered with sensitivity and respect for your tradition.
"Faith and healing are not in opposition. For many of us, they are the same journey."

Therapy Services
Support for Every Season of Life
I offer compassionate, evidence-based therapy for individuals, couples, and families. Each approach is tailored to you.
Individual Therapy
One-on-one care for the challenges you carry
Individual therapy provides a private, supportive space to explore what's weighing on you β whether it's anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, identity questions, or life transitions. Together, we'll work to understand patterns, process experiences, and build sustainable tools for change.
Issues I work with:
Couples & Relationship Therapy
Rebuilding connection, one conversation at a time
Relationships are complex β especially when layered with cultural expectations, communication differences, and unhealed wounds. Couples therapy offers a guided space to slow down, really listen to each other, and find new ways of being together. I work with all relationship types and structures.
Issues I work with:
Family Therapy
Healing within the family system
Families carry stories across generations. Family therapy helps you understand the dynamics, roles, and patterns that have shaped your family β and create new possibilities for connection, communication, and repair. I approach family work with deep respect for cultural values and family loyalty.
Issues I work with:
Latino/a Family Therapy
Culturally grounded care for Latino/a individuals and families
Growing up between cultures β navigating family expectations, acculturation stress, language, immigration experiences, and the deep pull of your roots β is its own kind of complexity. I offer a space where your cultural identity is not an afterthought, but the lens through which we understand your story. Hablo espaΓ±ol tambiΓ©n.
Issues I work with:
LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy
Your identity is not a problem to be solved
I provide a genuinely affirming therapeutic space for LGBTQIA+ individuals, couples, and families. This means your identity, gender expression, and relationship structure are treated with celebration and respect β not clinical neutrality. I have training in LGBTQIA+-specific mental health concerns and am committed to being an ongoing learner and ally.
Issues I work with:
Faith-Integrated Therapy
Where psychology and spirituality meet
For clients who want their faith to be part of the healing process, I offer faith-integrated therapy that honors your spiritual framework as a source of meaning, strength, and direction. This approach is always client-led β you define how much or how little faith is part of our work. I work with clients from a variety of faith traditions with humility and respect.

Understanding What You're Experiencing
What Is Trauma?
Trauma is the body and mind's response to events that overwhelm our capacity to cope. It's not just what happened β it's how your nervous system held it. Trauma can stem from a single event, ongoing stress, or relational patterns. It's not a sign of weakness; it's a sign you survived something hard.
Anxiety vs. Stress
Stress is typically a response to an external trigger and fades when the situation resolves. Anxiety can persist even without a clear cause, often involving excessive worry, physical tension, and difficulty calming your mind. Both are real β and both respond well to therapeutic support when they start interfering with daily life.
The Mind-Body Connection
Your body stores experiences β tension in your shoulders, tightness in your chest, a knot in your stomach. These aren't "just physical." Understanding how emotions live in the body is a powerful part of healing. Somatic awareness helps us listen to signals we've learned to ignore.
Practices to Support Your Wellbeing
A simple technique to calm your nervous system:
1. Inhale slowly for 4 counts
2. Hold your breath for 4 counts
3. Exhale slowly for 4 counts
4. Hold empty for 4 counts
Repeat 4β6 cycles. You can do this anywhere β waiting in line, lying in bed, sitting at your desk.
When you feel overwhelmed, use your senses to bring yourself back to the present:
5 things you can see
4 things you can touch
3 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste
Take your time with each one. Let yourself really notice.
- What am I carrying today that isn't mine to hold?
- When was the last time I felt truly at peace? What was different?
- What would I say to my younger self right now?
- What boundary do I need to set β and what makes it hard?
- What does "enough" look like for me today?
Boundaries aren't betrayal β they're a form of love. In many Latino/a families, setting limits can feel like going against familismo. But protecting your energy allows you to show up more fully for the people you love. Start small: name one thing you need, practice saying it without over-explaining, and give yourself grace.
- My identity is not a burden β it is a gift.
- I deserve love that doesn't require me to shrink.
- Healing is not about becoming someone else β it's about coming home to who I already am.
- I am allowed to take up space.
- My joy is an act of resistance.
For clients of faith, prayer and mindfulness are not competing practices β they can complement each other beautifully. Centering prayer, contemplative silence, and breath-based meditation all share a root intention: presence. If faith is part of your life, it can also be part of your healing toolkit.
